Genesis cars in Gran Turismo.
Genesis has joined the world of Gran Turismo, allowing fans to drive Genesis cars in the virtual world.
Genesis announced Thursday that the G70 sedan will appear in Gran Turismo 7, released in March for Sony's PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. This marks the first time that a Genesis car will be available to drive in a video game.
Fans will also be able to drive the X GR3 and G70 GR4 racing car concepts that Genesis unveiled last August. Both racing cars are designed by up-and-coming talent Samir Sadikhov, a former Istituto Europeo di Design student who has worked on parts of the Rezvani lineup and the popular Ferrari F40 remake.
The news coincides with Genesis being named the official manufacturer partner of the Gran Turismo World Series, an esports tournament that has been running since 2018. As an official partner, Genesis will compete in the championship with the X GR3 and G70 GR4 concepts to compete for the Manufacturers' Cup title.
Interestingly, we may eventually see Genesis racing in the real world; the X GR3 and G70 GR4 concepts were originally developed to show the direction Genesis would take if it entered motorsports. And in Thursday's announcement, SangYup Lee, head of the Genesis Global Design Center, said the brand continues to explore entering motorsports.
