A 1978 Porsche 911 Safari car owned by Ken Block is up for sale.

Ken Block's 1978 Porsche 911 SC "Safari" rally car is for sale in the UK through Collecting Cars.

Safari-style builds are quite popular for their rugged looks, but this 911 also has a true rally pedigree; Brock drove it in the 2022 East Africa Safari Classic Rally in February. Race-like conditions left a layer of dirt and dust in its wake.

Brock and co-driver Alex Gelsomino drove the car for eight days in this rally, with the driver behind the wheel for over 18 hours in the race stages. Along the way, Brock and Gelsomino encountered elephants, giraffes, zebras, camels, goats, and other wildlife, forcing them to slow down and stop; the pair set eight fastest times in 22 stages, but several punctures and mistakes forced them to repair the car and earn a two-hour penalty.

The 911 was built by Tatil Porsche, which has been building 911 rally cars since 1992. The company began by stripping the original late 1970s and early 1980s 911 SC down to its body shell. That shell was reinforced with reinforced plating and enhanced mounting points for the EXE-TC 5-way adjustable shocks.

Other modifications included underbody protection, a whale tail rear spoiler, and a roof scoop. 15-inch Braid alloy wheels were mounted with Dunlop Direzza 86RW tires.

The Tatil Porsche also has a rebuilt stock 3.0-liter flat-six that produces 280 hp and drives the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission and limited-slip differential.

The Safari 911 is one of several new cars Brock has commissioned and raced since the end of his exclusive partnership with Ford in 2021. After selling several blue oval cars, Brock has turned to the German automaker. The successor to the Safari 911 is a 1,400-horsepower 911, the Funi Pigasus, which Brock plans to run in the 2023 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC).) Brock also has a partnership with Audi focused on electric vehicles, which has already produced the Audi S1 E-Tron Quattro Funitron, a wild tribute to the Quattro S1 rally car.

Those interested in purchasing this car may contact Collecting Cars. Otherwise, be sure to watch the racing action in the embedded video.
