2023 Mercedes-Benz AMG GLC 43 Spy Shot: the new performance crossover is here.

In June, Mercedes-Benz announced the redesigned GLC-Class, which will be introduced for the 2023 model year.

We have already spotted a prototype of the upcoming GLC 63, and today we have fresh spy shots of a prototype of the upcoming GLC 43.

The GLC class has grown slightly with the latest makeover, which appears to be intended to add interior space while giving the recently launched GLB class a little more room. The small crossover is based on an updated version of Mercedes' MHA (Modular High Architecture) platform, which underpins the current GLC-Class, and uses more aluminum than steel to reduce weight.

This GLC 43 should arrive at dealers around the same time as the regular crossover, while the GLC 63 range-topper may be delayed six months to a year. Exact market arrival dates for the new GLC class in the U.S. have not been announced.

The prototype is recognizable as being for the GLC 43 because of the four round exhaust tips in the rear; the GLC 63 prototype had square exhaust tips, a characteristic design of AMG's top models.

Both the GLC 43 and GLC 63 are expected to use turbocharged four-cylinder engines. Yes, get ready to say goodbye to the V-8 in the GLC 63.

The GLC 43 should feature the same 2.0-liter inline-4 turbo and mild hybrid combo as the redesigned C 43. This setup features an electrified turbocharger design similar to that found in Formula One, with a peak of 402 hp. The mild hybrid setup could also add a temporary 13 hp boost under heavy load.

As for the GLC 63, this model should feature a refined plug-in hybrid powertrain that relies on the same mild hybrid setup as the GLC 43, but with the addition of an electric motor at the rear axle, up to 201 hp can be added for a total output would be approximately 643 hp. This new setup, branded as the new E Performance, has already been previewed by AMG and will soon debut in the redesigned C 63.
