2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06, 610 hp on the dyno.

The 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 was shipped off the assembly line and put on the dyno by YouTube channel Speed Phenom.

Speed Phenom drove the Z06 coupe to Dallas, Texas, where it went straight to the Dallas Performance dyno. After many pulls, the car recorded a maximum output of 610 hp and 419 lb-ft of torque. This compares to the factory crank output of 670 hp at 8,400 rpm and 460 lb-ft of torque at 6,300 rpm.

It was an impressive performance considering that power was measured at the wheels rather than the crank and that the dyno test was conducted immediately after the Z06 had been driven long distances without special preparation. The car also achieved an estimated 190 mph in fifth gear, meaning it had three gears on the eight-speed dual-clutch transaxle.

Even more impressive is that the Z06's 5.5-liter V-8 engine, code-named LT6, produced this power through RPM rather than forced induction. With its double overhead cam and flat-plane crankshaft, the LT6 can rev to 8,600 rpm at fuel shutoff. As shown in the embedded video, it sounds as good as a modern Ferrari V-8 engine.

As Motor Authority discovered in our first drive of the Z06, the LT6 spins freely; while the LT6 does not produce its best torque below 3,500 rpm, our experience is that it produces plenty of torque at lower rpm.

This fine engine is not cheap: the 2023 Corvette Z06 costs $106,395, including destination. But with the impending electrification of the current C8 Corvette, including hybrids and electric Corvettes, the automotive world will probably not see anything like the Z06 and its LT6 engine again.
