2024 Porsche Macan EV with over 600 hp

Porsche has released new details about its Macan electric car, scheduled for launch in the first half of 2024.

Originally slated for 2022, the launch has been delayed several times due to development delays that Bloomberg reported in July were due to software issues. The related Audi Q6 E-Tron has also been postponed.

The compact crossover is the first vehicle to be developed on Volkswagen Group's new PPE modular EV platform. Developed by Porsche and Audi, the platform is designed for volume production premium models. For mainstream models, the VW Group brands rely on the existing MEB platform.

Unlike Porsche's J1 platform, which underpins the Taycan, the PPE platform is flexible enough to produce low and high ride height models in multiple size categories. In the case of the Macan, the platform features a 98 kwh battery pack and electric motors that drive each axle; according to Green Car Reports, at least one grade delivers more than 603 hp total power and 740 lb-ft of torque.

The battery operates at 800 volts, allowing for fast charging. Porsche suggests that with a 350 kw charge point, the car can travel 60 miles in 4 minutes and nearly 250 miles in less than 20 minutes. Porsche has also demonstrated 450kw charging, which can add 60 miles in just three minutes, but 450kw charging is largely unknown in the US. Porsche's electric sedan currently has an EPA-rated range of up to 242 miles.

Green Car Reports also revealed that the top-of-the-line Macan EV will feature a fully variable rear differential and electronic rear differential lock, which Porsche calls a performance rear axle. The rear motor will be mounted slightly behind the rear axle to make room for gearing and a 48:52 front-rear weight distribution with a slight rear bias. Porsche also revealed that the inverter will use silicon carbide.
