Ford is building a high-performance F-150 Lightning Concept.

Ford isn't done building insane EV concepts to flex its electric muscle.

On Friday, Ford announced that it will return to Formula 1 racing with Red Bull Racing in 2026, while also releasing a graphic showing how racing can produce winning products. One of them is an outline of a yet-to-be-revealed electric pickup demo car, possibly based on the F-150 Lightning. The other silhouettes are of the new Mustang race car and the previously revealed Ranger Raptor.

The next EV experiment may be the high-powered F-150 Lightning. Ford has built a Mustang Mach E with seven electric motors producing a total of 1,400 hp, a 1,972 hp electric Ford Super Van, and a 1978 F100 with an Eliminator electric crate engine.

Ford spokeswoman Emma Berg said the company continues to evaluate how EVs fit into its motorsports strategy.

The production F-150 Lightning, powered by a large 131 kwh battery, produces 563 hp and 775 lb-ft of torque. Ford initially announced the electric truck's 0-60 mph acceleration would be in the mid-4-second range. The production truck's 0-60 mph time is under 4.0 seconds, faster than originally advertised. This would be faster than the standard F-150 Raptor and perhaps as fast as the F-150 Raptor R with a supercharged V-8 engine.

It is unclear when Ford's teased F-150 Lightning-based demo car will be unveiled, how much power it will have, or what upgrades it will receive, but it is likely to run 0-60 mph in under 4.0 seconds. The electric Ford SuperVan Concept has been tested at high speeds at the Nürburgring and can run 0-60 mph in less than 2.0 seconds thanks to multiple motors.
