The rights to the first 2024 Ford Mustang sold at auction for $565,000.

Ford held a charity auction over the weekend, offering customers first rights to a redesigned 2024 Mustang.

The auction took place at Barrett-Jackson's annual auction in Scottsdale, Arizona, with all proceeds going to JDRF, a charity that supports the fight against diabetes. The auction also sold the rights to the first 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV.

The first of the new seventh-generation Mustangs, with a VIN ending in 001, has been identified as a Mustang GT. Since it has not yet been manufactured, the winning bidder still has the chance to configure the car to his or her liking.

Ford also sold the rights to the latest Shelby GT500, Mach 1, and the first example of the Brit at a charity auction. The bid prices for these sales were on the modest side, as it is not uncommon for the winning bids to be in the seven-figure realm. For example, the rights to the first 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500 sold for $1.1 million in 2019.

Ford unveiled the 2024 Mustang last September. It will hit showrooms this summer in EcoBoost, GT, and a new Dark Horse grade: the EcoBoost with a 315-hp 2.3-liter turbo four, and the GT with a 480-hp 5.0-liter V-8 (standard) or 486 hp (optional active exhaust). The car will be equipped with. The Dark Horse shares the Mustang GT's 5.0-liter V-8, but is tuned to 500 hp, with a choice of a 6-speed manual or 10-speed automatic.

Pricing will be announced closer to launch.

Other recent Barrett-Jackson highlights include a one-off Ferrari F40 in Nardo Gray that sold for $2.75 million and a pair of Ford GT Carbon Series supercars that sold for $1.32 million each.
