Ford Edge launches long-wheelbase model for China.

Following the posting of a camouflaged prototype and a handful of photos on the website of China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, a complete picture of the 2024 Ford Edge for China has been revealed.

The current Edge has been on sale since the 2015 model year and is undoubtedly in need of a redesign. However, this version for the Chinese market may not be for the U.S.

Displayed in the form of the long-wheelbase Edge L, this version of the crossover looks very different from its predecessor. It adopts the folded design language of the 2023 Ford Mondeo midsize sedan that replaced the Fusion in China last year. Taller, flatter body sides and a blunt front mask mark a significant change from the rounded surfaces of the current Edge.

At 196.9 inches long, 77.2 inches wide, and 69.8 inches tall, the Edge L is actually closer in size to the current U.S. Ford Explorer, although its 116.1-inch wheelbase is about 3 inches shorter.

Power comes from a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine that produces 249 hp and 279 lb-ft of torque and a hybrid powertrain that boosts output to 271 hp and 300 lb-ft. Both powertrains are expected to be offered with all-wheel drive.

The interior will feature a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster juxtaposed with a massive 27.0-inch touchscreen, giving the impression of one large screen. A heads-up display, Bang & Olufsen audio system, ambient lighting, and panoramic roof are also offered, as well as up to 20 driver aids.

The Ford Edge L is expected to go on sale in China this spring, most likely as a 2024 model. However, this is likely unrelated to Ford's plans to update the Edge for the U.S. market. Keep in mind that Ford has announced a Chinese version of the Explorer for 2022, but this will be different from the version U.S. buyers will get.

In the U.S., the 2023 Ford Edge will continue with only minor changes, including a new ST Interior Appearance Package.
