Alfa Romeo to Create One-off 4C to Commemorate 10th Anniversary

The production model of the Alfa Romeo 4C was first unveiled to the world at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show.

Now, 10 years later, Alfa Romeo announced Wednesday that it wants to commemorate that milestone by creating a special one-off version, dubbed the 4C Designer's Cut.

The car, however, is not yet in production. Its custom design is being handled by the Reloaded by Creators program of the Sterantis Heritage division, with Alfa Romeo designer Alessandro Maccolini overseeing the project.

Alfa Romeo also hopes to involve fans in three potential design styles - 4C Tributo, 4C Corsa, and 4C Leggenda - to encourage fan feedback. Fans can provide feedback through the Heritage department's various communication channels, Alfa Romeo said. '[Over the years, I have had the opportunity to gain direct experience in the Alfa Romeo club and to see many versions of the 4C with different types of paintwork and finely tuned configurations,' Maccolini said in a statement. 'That's why we want to invite fans to join us in this project and celebrate the 4C's 10th anniversary together with a truly special one-off.'

Reloaded by Creators is a restoration and restomod service operated by Sterantis (formerly Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) since 2018. The program seeks out models it considers to be classics, or in the case of the 4C, future classics, and restores the cars before selling them to collectors.

Production of the 4C lasted until 2020. The car is impressive in many ways, but not without its flaws. It was a sports car with supercar looks and exclusivity, and with an initial price tag starting in the $50,000 range, most ordinary people could afford one. Unfortunately, the recipe did not work out for Alfa Romeo, and throughout the 4C's short life, annual sales in the U.S. remained in the low triple digits.
