Nissan Announces Electric GT-R Concept at Tokyo Motor Show

Nissan offers the most convincing sign that the next GT-R sports car will go electric with the hyper-force concept announced on Wednesday at the Tokyo Motor Show 2023.

A preview of the future design and technology of the fifth automaker of the surprise of the hyper family. from Nissan's electric concept, but although Hyper Force is not directly called GT-R, its style is clearly inspired by Japanese sports cars of the previous generation, and the front and rear badges mimic GT-R badges with a silver top and red bottom.

Additional GT-R equipment includes a jet fighter cockpit, electric taillights, large rear fenders and a headlight cutout resembling the shape of the popular headlights of the r34 generation. The graphic design of the rear wing is also a reference to the Nissan Skyline R30 generation.

The peak power of the conceptual electric power unit is 1,341 hp, or 1,000 kW. There is also an all-wheel drive system and a solid-state battery operated by an improved version of the electric torque vectoring system Nissan e-4orce. Solid-state battery cells have the potential to increase flight range and charging time while reducing the weight of electric vehicles. This is a technology that Nissan is currently developing with the goal of launching around 2028.

The advantages of the concept are the carbon fiber construction, including wheels, and an aerodynamic package honed by racing engineers from the Nissan Nismo Motorsport division. Elements such as hood ducts, lip spoilers, front flaps, rear fenders and rear diffusers help create tremendous downforce at all speeds. Nissan said the concept also includes a new technology called plasma actuators to further improve aerodynamic performance. The technology is based on strategically placed electrodes that charge air particles and direct them using electromagnetic fields.

Access to the interior is through butterfly doors, the design of which is traditionally found in McLaren-type supercars. Drivers are faced with a variety of screens that display important performance indicators, including information about tire and brake temperatures, clutch levels and power distribution. The driver can also adjust functions such as suspension and stabilizer using the screen. What you see depends on whether the driver has chosen GT (grand touring) or R (race) mode.

Other technologies introduced in this concept include autonomous driving systems using lidar sensors, and helmets with virtual and augmented reality projections that allow drivers to simulate racing on some of the best race tracks in the world while the car is parked. The driver can virtually compete with his friends or bots.

Nissan has not said that the Hyperforce will enter production as the next GT-R, but the automaker says that the concept represents the vision of "the next generation of high-performance cars".

The last official announcement about the GT-R from Nissan was that the automaker in 2021 He confirmed that he is developing a new platform for the next GT-R, the R36. The current R35GT-R belongs to the 2009 model year, so a replacement has been expected for some time.

Other Nissan Hyper EV concepts include the previously shown Hyper Urban crossover, Hyper Tourer minivan, Hyper Punk connectivity crossover and the rugged Hyper Adventure SUV.
