John Delorean's Daughter Designs Delorean Based on C8 Corvette

A new tribute to the Delorean DMC-12, based on the C8 Corvette, is in production, and the director of the project is the daughter of the creator of the DMC-12, John Delorean.

"I needed to find a way to create an affordable car for the Delorean community," Catherine Delorean said in an interview with Hagerty, announcing a project called Delorean's Next Generation Motor (Dng).

DNG replaces the factory body of the c8 Corvette with a new design inspired by the DMC-12, with doors in the form of seagull wings. Catherine Delorian told Haggerty that the latter was made possible thanks to the Targa top of the Corvette production coupe, which required Chevrolet to lay a safety frame from the top of the front swing door.

So far, DNG has only shown a rendering of the design, which came from the heart of designer Angel Guerra, who worked for the Croatian electric car company Rimac.

The unnamed DMC-12 Tribute uses the basic Corvette Stingray as a platform to keep prices as low as possible, but DNG, according to Hagerty, is working with aftermarket companies on mechanical changes.

It is also advisable to use the C8 Corvette as the basis for the new Delorean. Before founding his own car company, John Delorean was an executive director of General Motors. He is most remembered for supporting the production of the Pontiac GTO, but from 1969 to 1972 he also headed Chevrolet. Meanwhile, he was aggressively pushing for the Corvette to switch to a mid-engined platform, and after leaving GM, according to Haggerty, the mid-engined Aerobet

The company is also planning a more exclusive handmade sports car called model JZD. A total of 42 pieces will be made. The JZD will have a more exclusive price, and the DMC-12 Tribute will be more affordable. For your information, the price of the Corvette Stingray is about $770,000, so it is expected that the redesigned DeLorean will cost significantly more, given the work required to refit it.

A pair of dng sports cars is not the only new Delorean in development. Texas-based Delorean Motor Company has announced plans to release an electric Delorean in 2022 under the name Alpha 5. It has a door in the form of a seagull wing, but the Alpha5 style is not retro, which minimizes the reference to the past. Initially, the company planned to build 12 Alpha9, 531 coupes, the number of Delorean DMC—5 cars, but in the same 5 years when it was originally announced, it reduced the planned production to 4000.
