New Ford Mustang to arrive in 2025
Ford unveiled a new variation of its current seventh-generation car at the Mustang's 60th anniversary celebration at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Wednesday.
One teaser photo was shown, and Ford did not discuss additional details other than to confirm that the car will be available in 2025.
The teaser did not reveal many details, but it did show the car with a rear wing, suggesting it is a performance variant.
Next year will mark the 60th anniversary of Shelby American's introduction of the original GT350. To mark the 50th anniversary, Ford unveiled the GT350 and GT350R, the sixth-generation Mustangs.
Ford, of course, has many other variants that could be revived, including the Boss 302, Bullitt, and Mach 1. A modern Shelby GT500, or equivalent, could probably be ruled out, as it is early in the life cycle of the current Mustang. Performance range-toppers like the Shelby GT500 tend to appear toward the end of their life cycle.
Ford may also be planning a hybrid Mustang, and the shroud of the car in the teaser photo features a shade of green. Ford had planned to introduce a hybrid option for the previous generation Mustang, but dropped the project to focus on the development of the seventh generation. Ford said just this month that it expects to offer hybrid powertrains across its lineup in North America by the end of the decade.
On Wednesday, Ford unveiled a limited-edition 60th Anniversary package for the Mustang GT to commemorate the Mustang's 60th anniversary; only 1,965 units will be available, and this number represents the Mustang's first model year.
