2024 Mustang Mach-E Rally Polished in the conditions of rally cloth
The 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E features a new rally performance grade to serve as the flagship of the model. It's inspired by rallycross racing, but its inspiration doesn't just extend to the look of the vehicle.
Ford provided some insight into tests conducted during the development of the Mustang Mach-E Rally on Tuesday, many of which included exercises to ensure that the vehicle can truly handle rally cross races.
According to Ford, the prototype underwent torture testing at the automaker's own Michigan test site. The tests were carried out on a newly built section of the test site with typical conditions of rally cross racing such as various surface types, tight turns and even jumps.
The prototype was driven 500 miles in rough conditions, but Ford said this was the equivalent of 10 years of monthly rally cross racing. It was Chris Burchin, a Ford off・road attribute engineer and former Rally Cross driver, who did much of the driving.
The test also helped polish the new RallySport drive mode that will debut on the vehicle. This mode allows for more yaw and lateral action as well as a new damping profile for a more linear throttle response and magnetic damper before the electronic nanny suppresses things.
Other upgrades include a 1.0-inch lift from the standard Mustang Mach-E GT suspension, custom tuning springs, and a Michelin Crossclimate2-inch wheel wrapped in 19-inch tires.
Prices for the Mustang Mach-E Rally start atド1,895, including a目的地61,890 destination fee. It comes with a 480 hp, all-wheel drive, and Mach-E 91kwh extended range battery as standard. Ford estimates the range to be about 265 miles.
