30 years later, McLaren marks Senna's death with a special coloring

It's been 30 years since Ayrton Senna died at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix, and McLaren will mark the milestone at this weekend's 2024 Monaco Grand Prix with a special coloring honoring the Brazilian Formula 1 icon.

The coloring wraps up the F1 cars of both Rand Norris and Oscar Pierstry throughout the race weekend. It was developed in parallel with another special coloring known as the Sena Sempré, which McLaren's MSO Personalization division applied to the McLaren Sena Supercar from McLaren's Heritage Collection.

Both livers sport the green and gold of the Brazilian flag, while those of the Senna Supercar have 2 depictions of Senna, 1 of which wears a racing helmet supet.

The Supercar also features a script of the famous Senna quote, "I have no idols." I admire the work, dedication and ability.

Although he only lives to the age of 34, Senna is widely regarded by past and present drivers around the world as one of the greatest, if not the greatest, racers of all time. He won 3 F1 World Championships, 41 victories and 80 podiums, most of which were won during his time at McLaren, which ran from 1988 to 1993.

The 1994 San Marino Grand Prix will forever be known as one of the saddest things in f1, not only because of Senna's death, but also because of the death of Austrian driver Roland Ratzenberger, who crashed his Simtech during qualifying 1 day before the Senna crash. Whether it was due to the design of the car, mechanical failure, or human error has never been established. That fateful race helped change the development of motorsport in general, not just F1, especially when it comes to safety.

Netflix will also stream a 6-episode miniseries about Senna this year. The trailer was released on 5/1, which was the anniversary of Senna's death.
