Jeep Renegade now has an electric car for under $25,000
Sterantis held an investor briefing on Thursday to reveal details of key products related to the Jeep brand through 2027.
No specific timeline for the electric Renegade was announced, but Sterantis CEO Carlos Tavares said in May that an electric Jeep priced around $25,000 would be coming to the US "very soon."
At an investor presentation on Wednesday, Sterantis described the electric Renegade as a variant of the Renegade nameplate and suggested that a gas variant would be sold alongside the new electric version. In some markets, Jeep already sells a plug-in hybrid of the Renegade alongside the gas model.
Jeep sold about 1.04 million vehicles worldwide in 2023, about 65% of which were for U.S. buyers. The brand hopes to grow sales to 1.5 million units by 2027 and 2 million units by the end of the decade, and plans to introduce a long-awaited new product to help it reach its goal.
The plan is to increase the number of nameplates from the current 10 (including the new Wagoner S in 2024) to 13 by 2027. One of the new nameplates is the Recon electric off-roader, scheduled for launch later this year.
By 2027, at least six nameplates will be EVs or offer electric powertrain options, while 10 will still offer gas powertrain options. Jeep will have the most diverse powertrain lineup of any brand, with five nameplates offering mild hybrid or hybrid powertrains, five offering plug-in hybrids, and one offering a series plug-in hybrid. Jeep will have a total of 27 powertrains, up from the current 18.
Series plug-in hybrids use a small battery that is replenished while driving by a gas engine that acts purely as a generator. The same Sterantis-branded Ram just introduced a series plug-in hybrid powertrain in its 2025 1500 Ramcharger, and the same powertrain is expected to be offered in the Jeep Wagoneer as early as next year.
Sterantis also stated during his investor presentation that a new mainstream Jeep will be introduced by 2027. This is expected to be a redesigned Cherokee. The latest Cherokee ceased production with the 2023 model year.
