Genesis GV60 Magma to launch performance sub-brand in 2025
The hotter Genesis GV60 is coming sooner than expected and will usher in a new era for the luxury automaker.
On Thursday, Genesis decided to put the GV60 Magma concept into production in 2025. Genesis' first EV will be a hotter iteration of a new performance subdivision called Magma.
Genesis announced that it will run the GV60 Magma Concept at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend.
Production of the GV60 Magma will begin in the third quarter of 2025, with sales starting in South Korea. Sales in Europe will follow in Q4 2025. No U.S. launch schedule has been announced, but the concept and Magma sub-brands debuted at the 2024 New York Auto Show in March. It is almost certain that they will eventually be launched in the US.
The GV60 Magma will be the first, but far from the last, model of this new sub-brand. Genesis said it aims to develop a Magma variant of each model in its existing lineup.
The Magma models will feature changes "aimed at enhancing sporty driving pleasure while ensuring effortless comfort." The models feature a wider stance, lower ride height, and updated chassis and suspension.
While no power gains have been confirmed for all Magma models, Genesis states that the GV60 Magma concept has upgrades to the chassis, cooling, thermodynamics, and possibly power. An improved fascia with added intakes will help cool the brakes and improved powertrain. It is also possible that parts of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N were transplanted into the GV60 Magma.
Genesis has not revealed which model will get the Magma treatment next, but the G80 Magma concept debuted alongside the GV60 Magma concept.
