Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary Edition stops by Jay Leno's Garage

The Lamborghini Countach is a car that Jay Leno knows well. He has owned a 1987 Countach since new and has put over 70,000 miles on it over the past 40 years. For a man with a car collection as vast as Leno's, that is impressive.

Leno now features the Countach 25th Anniversary model in the latest episode of his online series “Jay Leno's Garage.” The car is a 1989 model, finished in the same shade of red as Leno's Countach, with a black interior.

The Countach 25th Anniversary Edition was released in 1988 to commemorate Lamborghini's 25th birthday, and a total of 658 were produced.

It is distinguished from the previous Countach Quattrovalvole (QV) owned by Leno by its unique front and side spoilers and air vents designed by Pagani CEO and founder Horacio Pagani, who was working for Lamborghini at the time.

It is powered by a 5.2-liter V-12 engine that delivers 455 hp and reaches a top speed of 183 mph. Tire sizes were 225/50 in the front and 345/35 in the rear, the widest of any production car at the time.

The Countach 25th Anniversary model was the last of the Countach The Countach's successor, the Diablo, went into production in 1990. Incredibly, the Countach remained in production for nearly 20 years. The first prototype, designed by Marcello Gandini, was shown at the Geneva Motor Show as early as 1971. It was a hit and went into production in 1974.

In recent years, Lamborghini has used the Countach's iconic design to create a modern iteration based on the Aventador's platform. Debuting in 2021 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Countach prototype's debut, only 112 units were built. This number is a reference to the model name LP 112, which was used during the development of the original Countach.
