Maserati Prepares Hardcore MC20 for Monterey Car Week 2024
Maserati will unveil a new version of its MC20 supercar at this month's motorsports gathering, The Quail.
The car was developed using lessons learned from Maserati's MC20-based GT2 racing car, but remains civilian enough to drive on the road.
Maserati also said that buyers will have a wide range of customization options, but gave no further details.
Teaser shots released Thursday show front fenders with the same vents as the GT2 car.
The race car features a much wilder aerodynamic design than the road car, with larger side intakes and an adjustable rear wing attached via swan-neck struts. It also features a unique front splitter and rear diffuser, and according to Maserati, a full flat floor helps improve airflow. The new MC20, which will debut at Monterey, will likely feature similar equipment.
Power will likely come from the same twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 that will be found in both the regular MC20 and the GT2. This engine produces 621 hp in the regular MC20 and 730 hp in the limited edition Mcxtrema circuit car, also based on the MC20.
The Quail is scheduled for August 16. It is one of the premier events of Monterey Car Week, which this year runs from August 9 to 18. Maserati has stated that the event will also be used for the North American debut of the MC20 Icona special edition.
