Electrified Jeep Wagoneer, expected by the end of 2025.
Sterantis on Wednesday announced a series of production updates at its three Michigan plants, which will include an electrified Jeep Wagoneer by the end of 2025.
The automaker announced that it will invest about $97.6 million to prepare its Warren Truck Assembly Plant for the electrified Wagoneer. The plant also produces gasoline-powered Wagoneers, and the two will share a production line.
Sterantis described the electrified Wagoneer as one of “four Jeep EVs” planned worldwide by the end of 2025, but the vehicle is not a pure battery-electric vehicle, but a series that will share technology with the 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger It is believed to be a plug-in hybrid.
The 1500 Ramcharger is based on Sterantis' STLA frame platform designed for hybrid and electric vehicles with body-on-frame construction, and the electrified Wagoner would be similar.
Powertrains are also likely to be common to both vehicles: the 1500 Ramcharger combines a 92 kwh battery with a 3.6-liter V-6 engine that functions purely as a generator. Ram claims the truck's electric drive system has a peak output of 663 hp and a range of 145 miles with the battery alone and 690 miles with the battery and gas engine combined. Similar numbers are expected for the electrified Wagoner.
News of the electrified Wagoner was first mentioned in a UAW document released in November 2023. The document also indicated that an electric Wagoneer would be launched in 2027 and that gasoline-powered Wagoneers would be refreshed in 2025 and 2027. Given the timing, these refreshes will likely coincide with the arrival of electrified and electric Wagoneers.
Other announcements by Sterantis on Wednesday include confirmation that the 1500 Ramcharger and 2025 Ram 1500 REV electric trucks will be produced at the Sterling Heights plant where the gas 1500 is built.
Sterantis also announced that the Dundee engine plant will be used to manufacture components for the STLA frame and STLA large platform, in addition to new four-cylinder engines, including a 1.6-liter turbo four that will be used in the 2025 hybrid powertrain to be used for the new STLA platform.
