Mercedes-Benz G-Class Past II Future, Heritage-inspired Limited Edition
Mercedes-Benz has partnered with fashion designer Nigo to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the iconic G-Class SUV with a limited edition model.
The G-Class Past II Future, limited to 20 units worldwide, features a two-tone green and gray exterior paint job with blacked-out exterior trim and wheels. The interior features checkered seats inspired by vintage G-Class models. The color scheme echoes a one-off restoration of a 1990s G-Class convertible, also designed by Nigo.
The Past II Future Edition is available in diesel G 450d and gasoline G 550 configurations, downsized from the previous 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo for 2025 to a 3.0-liter inline-6 assisted by a mild hybrid system. turbo is employed, producing a maximum output of 443 hp and maximum torque of 413 lb-ft.
Mercedes did not specifically mention U.S. sales or pricing, but said all 20 Past II Future Editions will be delivered to customers globally in April 2025. Note that the G 550 is already priced at $148,250 (excluding destination) in the US.
In addition to the G 550's downsized engine, the G-Class will receive several updates for the 2025 model year. The exterior styling and interior layout are slightly modified, and the performance AMG G 63 model retains its V8 engine but adds an active anti-roll system. The footprint is essentially the same as the platform that debuted in the 2019 model year.
The 2025 G-Class lineup will also include an all-electric version for the first time. Officially named the G 580 with EQ Technology, it features a quad-motor powertrain and a tank-turning gimmick calculated to win over customers skeptical of electrifying such an old-school SUV.
