Alpine A390 Beta Teases Electric Crossover for 2025

French performance maker Alpine plans to unveil seven models this decade.

The first of these debuted in June in the form of the A290 hot hatch; the second is an electric compact crossover called the A390, previewed Monday at the 2024 Paris Motor Show in the thinly veiled form of the A390 Beta concept. According to Alpine, the show car shares roughly 85% of its body panels with the production model.

Both the A290 and A390 will go on sale next year in markets where Alpine currently operates. The U.S. is not one of those markets, but Alpine plans to launch in the U.S. in 2027, possibly with two large electric crossovers.

Although technical details have not been disclosed, the A390 Beta and the production model it will spawn will likely use the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance's dedicated EV platform, specifically the CMF-EV design found in the Renault-Megane E-Tech and Nissan Ariya (Renault is Alpine's parent company). It is highly likely that this platform will be adopted. This platform has produced up to 429 hp in the Alya Nismo, and a similar one could be used in the A390. [Production of the A390 will take place at Alpine's plant in Dieppe, France. This plant is where Alpine manufactures the only vehicle it currently sells, the A110 sports car. The current A110 will be Alpine's last gas-powered vehicle. Alpine also unveiled at the Paris Motor Show the A110 R Ultime, the final evolution of the current A110. An electric successor is also planned and will be one of seven new Alpines to appear this decade.

An electric supercar is also part of the plan, possibly with styling taken from Alpine's Alpenglow Hy6 concept, also shown in Paris. Another Alpine is a four-door sedan or liftback called the A310.

All of Alpine's modern car names have an A, meaning Alpine, followed by three digits: the first digit indicates the size and positioning of the vehicle, while the remaining two digits indicate whether it is a sports model or a more practical lifestyle model.
