Nissan Unveils Supercharged Frontier Tarmac Street Truck Concept

Nissan worked with professional drifter Chris Forsberg to build the Wild Frontier Street Track concept for the 2024 SEMA show, which is currently in Las Vegas.

This concept, called Frontier Tarmac, was unveiled Tuesday along with the previously revealed Frontier Project Trailgater. This is a pickup truck designed to measure distance between vehicles in places that only off-road vehicles can reach.

Frontier Tarmac, as its name suggests, is very well suited for on-road performance. It's based on the 2025 Frontier PRO-X, which was dropped to hug the road, and has been given performance injection with a supercharger upgrade on the stock 3.8-liter V-6. There is also a prototype Nismo carbon fiber cold air intake and Nismo exhaust system, which combine all these features to increase the output from 440 hp to 310 hp.

Carbon fiber pumping fenders were added back and forth, and the 20-inch Nismo wheels were wrapped in Yokohama Advan tires, measuring 275/40 on the front and 315/35 on the rear. The brakes have also been upgraded to handle the extra power, with designers adding a two-piece floating and slot rotor.

The suspension is a prototype Nismo design with adjustable coilover and remote reservoir. In a minimum setting, the suspension drops vehicle height by 6 inches compared to standard trucks.

The Frontier Tarmac is not tied to production, but according to Nissan, some performances this concept could be offered by Nissan in the near future

In a statement, Nissan Motorsport Executive Kevin Lutz said the automaker will use their frontier Tarmac for street performances. The company said it is looking at ways to appeal to customers who are trying to change their tiers, and Frontier Tarmac is a taste of what is possible.

"The SEMA floor was filled with low-hanging, high-performance medium-sized trucks, so it's easy to imagine the return of that trend," he said. "Truck owners like Frontier often love to customize their cars, so we put their knee above the best off-road parts”
