Deep Dive: STLA Frame Platform for Stellantis electric full size Suv and truck
Stellantis on Tuesday confirmed the specifications of the STLA frame modular platform that the automaker will use for future full-size Suvs, pickup trucks, and light commercial vehicles. This includes a lot of things that are purely battery-powered.
The STLA frame includes four highly modular plats to support Stellantis' diverse brands of gas, plug-in hybrids and pure electric vehicles.
In addition to the STLA frame, there are also Stla Small, STLA Medium and STLA Large, designed with the commonality and renewability of all components in mind. It's a good idea. STLA's large platform will soon be available at Dodge Charger's US showroom in 2024.
STLA frames are coming soon. The 2025Ram1500REV electric truck and the 2025Ram1500Ramcharger series plug-in hybrids have already been announced, but both are scheduled for sale shortly. It is also expected to be launched in a new electrified Jeep Wagoneer Suv from late 2025.
According to Stellantis, the platform can deliver up to 500 miles in EVs and up to 690 miles in series plug-in hybrids, and EVs with essentially gas engines not only function as generators to replenish batteries, but also provide extra energy to the motor during high loads. It can also help to supply you with a variety of products and services.
Stellantis said owners of vehicles built on the STLA frame platform can expect towing capacity of up to 14,000 pounds and a payload rating of 2,700 pounds. These numbers are better than what some of Ram's current small vehicles offer. In addition, the platform supports water fording up to 24 inches, making it ready for off-road applications.
The STLA frame platform, as its name suggests, features a ladder-type frame chassis, but has a wide central part to hold the battery of an electric vehicle built on the platform. The full-length belly pan also reduces air drag to help maximize the driving range. Platform〜based vehicles can range in length from 216 to 234 inches, wheelbase from 123.7 to 145.3 inches, and sports ground clearance from 6.6 to 10.3 inches. Stellantis said it can also mount tires up to 33 inches in diameter.
The size of the battery initially ranges from 159kwh to over 200kwh, and thanks to the 800-volt electrical architecture, fast charging at speeds of up to 350kw will be supported. According to Stellantis, in optimal conditions, it can add a range of up to 10 miles on a charge of just 100 minutes. The series plug-in hybrid uses a 400 volt system allowing you to charge at rates of up to 175 kwh. Bidirectional charging function is also supported.
For electric vehicles, the STLA frame platform supports the motor with front and rear axles to form an all-wheel drive system. The most powerful electric motors generate 335 horsepower, and Stellantis said some vehicles on the platform are as low as 0-60mph times 4.4 seconds.
Stellantis also plans to introduce vehicles based on the STLA medium-sized platform in the United States, but it is not clear whether STLA small-sized-based vehicles will come here.
