2026 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class EV Caught on Video
Mercedes-Benz is developing a redesigned CLA-Class that will go on sale next year in the U.S. as a 2026 model.
A hybrid prototype has been spotted recently, and the latest shots show an electric version. A high-performance AMG version of the electric CLA-Class is also being tested.
The design of the new CLA-Class was teased in last year's concept CLA-Class. Details of the concept expected to go into production include the Mercedes star logo pattern on the headlights and taillights, a wide panel with integrated digital meter cluster and infotainment hub screen, and a dash that features circular vents for the air conditioning system. Included.
Mercedes is also testing a prototype of the redesigned GLB-Class. A redesigned GLA-Class compact crossover is also in development, along with a new CLA-Class Shooting Break wagon. However, no new models of the A-Class sedan and hatchback or the B-Class minivan are planned.
The latest Mercedes compact cars will be mounted on a newly developed platform called MMA; for EVs, this platform offers a choice of single-motor rear-wheel drive or dual-motor all-wheel drive powertrains. The rear motor is rated at 268 hp and the front motor, which is activated under heavy load or when slip is detected, is rated at 107 hp.
The 800-volt electrical system allows for fast charging with a DC fast charger. Mercedes has hinted that a 100-mile range can be added with a charge of less than 15 minutes. Mercedes has not finalized the size of the battery, but one option is expected to have a usable capacity of about 85 kwh.
As for the hybrid, a newly developed 1.5-liter turbo four is paired with a 27-hp electric motor, sandwiched between a gas engine and an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Total system output will be 187 hp. The battery is a 1.3 kwh lithium-ion unit mounted under the driver's seat. Front-wheel drive will be standard, with all-wheel drive available as an option.
