2025 Goodwood Revival Celebrates VW Type 2 Split Screens
The Goodwood Revival is one of the world's leading gatherings of vintage racing cars, but this year it will celebrate decidedly less sporty vehicles.
Organizers boast that the opening parade for the 2025 Goodwood Revival will feature “the world's most varied collection” of Volkswagen Type 2 split-screen vans and pickups. This follows last year's Myers-Manks Dune Buggy Parade and the 2023 Motorcycle Parade.
The VW Type 2 (known as a microbus in van form) is not a race car, but it will celebrate its 75th anniversary in 2025 and fits the vintage theme of the Goodwood Revival. In addition to racing, the Revival typically displays period vehicles and participants dress in vintage attire for maximum authenticity.
The split-screen version of the Type 2 was produced from its introduction in 1950 until 1967, which is appropriate for the era given that Goodwood was a professional racing circuit from 1948 to 1966. Given that Goodwood was a professional racing circuit from 1948 to 1966, it is possible that some of these iconic vehicles served as support cars for racing teams at the time.
This year's Goodwood Revival will follow the 2023 Trials by using sustainable fuel in all race cars to reduce emissions. This is in accordance with FIA regulations that the Goodwood Revival adheres to. Organizers claim that the fuel does not require any modifications.
The 2025 Goodwood Revival is scheduled for September 12-14. Its related event, the Goodwood Festival of Speed, will be held July 10-13. The Festival of Speed will feature a mix of old and new cars, and this year's theme is “Horseless to Hybrid-Revolutions in Power.”
