Fisker Ocean Force E-Pack, which turns electric SUVs into apocalypse-ready off-roaders.

The Fisker Ocean is nearing production, and the company has announced that this battery-powered SUV will be available with four custom trim packages once it goes on sale.

One of them, the Force-E off-road package, was unveiled on Monday. It's available for Oceans with all-wheel drive (rear-wheel drive is standard) and includes a beefed-up suspension, off-road wheels and tires, body protection components, a roof rack, extra headlights, tow hooks, and a rear power take-off that can be used to charge stranded EVs.

You'll also notice that the package includes a spare tire located at the front of the car. It is placed in a recess in the hood unique to the Force-E package. The so-called flank also houses a large water tank, which is accessed via a tap on the front panel. According to Fisker, there will also be some upgrades inside, which will be revealed when the Ocean prototype with the Force-E package is unveiled in 2021.

While SUV enthusiasts will no doubt be excited about these features, Fisker said it has also received interest from rescue and military fleets.

As for other packages, Fisker said details on those will be announced in the fourth quarter of this year.

Fisker plans to begin production of the Ocean in late 2021, but it will likely be a pre-production version, as the first customer samples won't roll off the assembly line until late 2022 at the earliest.Fisker has yet to disclose details about the plant, but the company said Monday that production information will be released in the third quarter of this year.

If all goes according to plan, Fisker will put two more cars on the Ocean platform into production in a relatively short period of time. The company has hinted at pickup trucks in the past, but has not disclosed what form they will take.

One can only hope that Fisker will be able to put the Ocean into production. Reservations are already open, and Fisker previously announced pricing starting at $37,499. The car is covered by a $7,500 federal tax credit, bringing the final price to $29,999 for some buyers. It can also be leased for just $379 per month, with all repair and maintenance costs included - not bad terms for an electric SUV with an 80-kilowatt-hour battery and an estimated range of 250-300 miles.
