Brabus has built a Mercedes-AMG G63 pickup truck with about 800 horsepower.

Mercedes-Benz will discontinue production of the X-Class pickup truck in May, but Brabus is happy to step in with a Mercedes-AMG G63 with a cargo bay.

Called the XLP Adventure 800, this modified G63 has a cargo platform in the rear, a crew cab in the middle, and an upgraded version of the G63's 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine up front, developing 789 hp and 737 lb-ft of torque.

However, the G63 engine is also equipped with the G63's V8 engine.

But Brabus didn't stop there. The German tuner also added a custom suspension with portal axles to significantly raise the suspension height and turn the pickup into a true adventure vehicle. Together with 22-inch wheels with off-road tires, the minimum ground clearance reaches 19.2 inches.

Brabus also added a Wide Star widebody kit to complete the look, as well as to protect against wider ruts. Other improvements include underbody protection and a front strut with integrated winch.

All of the changes have resulted in improved dynamic performance: Brabus claims a 0-62 mph acceleration time of 4.8 seconds. Due to the high center of gravity, top speed is limited to 130 mph.

Mercedes offered a pickup version on the previous G-Class, but it never appeared in the updated model. This may soon change, however, as Brabus has developed an OEM-like quality pickup for the G-Class. Brabus was chosen by Mercedes to develop the extended body of the S-Class Pullman, and it wouldn't be surprising if the company also helps Mercedes develop the next G-Class pickup.
