"Speed Racer" is based on a manga series by Tatsuo Yoshida in the 1960s under the title "Mach GoGoGo," which spawned an animated series that debuted in the United States in 1967 under the title "Speed Racer" and was subsequently remade and made into a live-action film in 2008. The film was written and directed by the Wachowskis, with Emile Hirsch in the title role.
The story of Speed Racer centers on a racing driver, Speed Racer, and his racing car, known as the Mach 5. Other characters include Speed Racer's father, Pops Racer, a car manufacturer; his girlfriend, Trixie; and his brother, Splittle. Speed Racer also has a pet chimpanzee named Chim Chim.
