A movie will be made based on the video game Gran Turismo.
A movie from the Gran Turismo video game series has been created and will premiere on August 11, 2023, according to a tweet from The Game Awards.
According to the tweet, the plot will center on a teenage Gran Turismo player becoming a professional racing driver in the real world.
Neill Blomkamp has also reportedly been tapped to direct. Blomkamp has directed the science fiction films "District 9," "Elysium," and "Chappie," among others. He is also known as a car enthusiast and has directed a series of short films for BMW Films.
Gran Turismo is considered the gold standard of realism in racing games, thanks to its meticulously rendered cars and courses. It generally takes precedence over plot, but expect to see quality racing scenes on the silver screen.
This is not the first time a racing game has been made into a movie. A Need for Speed movie was released in 2014 and was a huge flop. Still, that hasn't stopped companies from trying to make movies out of all kinds of automotive intellectual property. Even "Hot Wheels" is slated to be made into a movie, although no release date has been announced. [The latest installment in the Gran Turismo series, Gran Turismo 7, will be released in March 2022 and will feature typically exquisitely detailed cars, including the new Vision Gran Turismo concepts from Porsche and Jaguar. The Genesis will also make its first appearance in Gran Turismo 7. Genesis, Hyundai's luxury car brand, licensed the G70 sedan and the X GR3 and G70 GR4 racing car concepts for the game.
