Gordon Murray is setting up a technical department to develop electric cars
Gordon Murray Design, which began as a design and engineering consultancy founded by McLaren F1 designer Gordon Murray, has expanded to include both an automotive company and a technology company that undertakes the development of electric vehicles.
Gordon Murray Design is now a division of the new Gordon Murray Technology business, separate from the Gordon Murray Electronics division.
The separate Gordon Murray Automotive business remains, and is responsible for manufacturing Gordon Murray branded vehicles, starting with the T.50 and T.33 supercars.
Both Gordon Murray Technology and Gordon Murray Automotive are controlled by the parent company, Gordon Murray Group. Philip Lee has been named CEO of the group and Gordon Murray has been named chairman. Murray is also responsible for all product design and engineering for the group.
Each division within the group follows Murray's key engineering principles of flawless operation, sustainability, energy efficiency, use of innovative and disruptive technologies, and performance through lightweighting.
Each division within the group has tripled in size since 2020 and is targeting similar growth over the next three years. In preparation for this, a vast headquarters and technology campus is being built in Surrey, UK.
"Despite the success of Gordon Murray Automotive, our major growth opportunity lies with Gordon Murray Technology. "We have a very talented team that is best in class, able to work with a global customer base to transform electric vehicles, connectivity, and ultimately autonomous transportation."
Murray also stated that Gordon Murray Technology has already developed two electric SUVs; one of the SUVs is for Gordon Murray Automotive and the other is for a major automotive company.
