Kevin Hart Adds 1987 Buick Grand National to Car Collection

Kevin Hart has added another car to his ever-growing collection: a 1987 Buick Grand National, an icon of the 1980s.

But like many of the classic muscle cars that dominate comedian and actor Kevin Hart's collection, this Grand National was built by the same Wisconsin-based company that built Hart's 940-horsepower 1969 Plymouth Road Runner It has been extensively reworked by Salvaggio Design, the same company that built Hart's 940-horsepower 1969 Plymouth Road Runner.

Salvaggio Design did not take the easy path of mounting a V-8 engine under the hood, but stuck with a V-6 engine. The engine chosen was a twin-turbo 3.6-liter V-6 from the Cadillac ATS-V, tuned to deliver 650 hp instead of the stock 464 hp.

To fit it in the Grand National, almost all of the engine's accessories had to be modified or relocated. Salvaggio went a step further and replaced the stock twin-turbo setup with a custom single-turbo design and added a custom Magnaflow exhaust as a tribute to the Grand National GNX's engine.

Using 103 octane race fuel and boost set at approximately 20 psi, the engine recorded 650 hp on the dyno test. Salvaggio Design plans to install a performance camshaft for 700 hp.

Salvaggio designed a custom chassis frame to support the machine. The front suspension is a Detroit Speed & Engineering X-Gen 595 and the rear is a DSE four-link with panhard rods. The wheels are a set of 19-inch HRE 501s with 265/30 front and 325/30 rear Toyo Proxes R888R tires.

Body fabrication expert Sean Smith started with a nearly stock donor body and focused on the details. Carbon fiber was used for the front end, as well as the hood, rear spoiler, and mirrors. Carbon fiber was also used in the cabin and engine compartment.

The cabin features a combination of dark blue and gray leather for the front seats and a roll cage in place of the rear seats. Bronze accents are the same as those found in the engine bay. The instrument panel is 3D printed and fitted with Holley gauges.

Salvaggio Design premiered the car at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas last week, where Hart was also present.
