2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray Hybrid debuts January 17.

The first hybrid Chevrolet Corvette is coming soon.

In an Instagram post on Tuesday, Chevrolet confirmed the debut of the electrified "Vette" on January 17 and posted a video showcasing part of the car, called the Corvette E-Ray.

According to the video, the car will have a stealth mode, allowing it to run solely on electric power. However, details about the vehicle's range and maximum speed in this mode are not available.

An uncovered prototype is currently being tested in the wild, and photos of the car were temporarily posted on Chevrolet's website last month. They confirm that the Corvette E-Ray will feature the same wide-body design as the 2023 Corvette Z06, but while the Z06 uses black accents on its aero parts, the E-Ray is focused on body color.

The E-Ray is expected to feature one or two electric motors on the front axle and a regular Corvette Stingray 6.2-liter V-8 engine on the rear axle. Judging from recent patents, an electric motor that can be integrated with the C8 Corvette's eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and drive the rear wheels is also a possibility.

Peak output is expected to drop to 600-650 hp, with a more powerful hybrid configuration expected during the C8 Corvette's product cycle, rumored to be a range-topping variant called the Zora.

Sales of the Corvette E-Ray are expected to begin in the summer.

Chevrolet plans to eventually introduce a fully electric Corvette, but probably not until the redesigned C9 Corvette is introduced. General Motors has stated that it aims to have all light cars powered by electricity by 2035. Some may be surprised to learn that the electric Corvette lineup may eventually add SUVs and other body styles. However, nothing has yet been confirmed on that front.
