Audi has been spotted testing a prototype of the updated Q7, and it appears that its testers are already in the late stages of development.

The current Q7, now in its second generation, was introduced for the 2017 model year and received its first update in 2020. Normally, a prototype of the model change would have appeared at this time, but Audi plans to transition to a fully electric model lineup this decade, and it makes sense for the automaker to continue updating the current internal combustion model until a successor electric model is It makes sense for automakers to continue updating their current internal combustion models until a successor to the electric models is available.

The updated three-row SUV is expected to appear late this year or early next year, possibly as a 2024 model. Its arrival should coincide with the arrival of the updated Q8, which is also being tested in prototype form. Both SUVs are expected to adopt design features introduced in the recently unveiled 2023 Q8 E-Tron (an updated version of the E-Tron electric SUV).

The new Q7 prototype features a new fascia at both ends and a front intake design similar to the Q8 E-Tron. The grille is also new, as are the lights at both ends.

The cabin should also receive some tweaks and, like the Q8 E-Tron's cabin, should feature new trim materials, including increased use of recycled materials in some areas.

It is not clear what updates, if any, will be made to the mechanicals; the Q7 is currently available with a 248-hp 2.0-liter turbo four and a 335-hp 3.0-liter turbo V-6, plus a 500-hp twin for the SQ7 variant turbo 4.0-liter V-8 is also available.

As mentioned above, Audi plans to move to a full electric lineup this decade. Audi has already decided to launch its last internal combustion model in 2026, and if the next Q7 is to appear, it will likely be an EV.

The Porsche Cayenne, which shares a platform with the Q7, will also receive an update soon. The Cayenne is also expected to become an EV when it is finally redesigned.
