2009 "Wild Speed" ripsaw up for auction

A 2009 Howe & Howe Ripsaw Tracker from "The Fate of the Furious" is up for auction at Mecum's Indianapolis auction on May 20. [The 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon made its silver screen debut, and the Ripsaw stood out in the film. It was one of a series of small tracked vehicles developed by brothers Mike and Jeff Howe.

In addition to appearing in the eighth "Wild Speed" film, the ripsaw was also used in "G.I. Joe," a film produced by Universal Studios, the same studio that produced "Wild Speed."

Power comes from a General Motors Duramax LBZ 6.6-liter turbo diesel V-8 that spins the truck through an Allison transmission. Top speed is estimated to be about 60 mph, not bad for a truck-run vehicle.

According to Mecum, the Ripsaw cost over $750,000 to build, but the auction house is only expecting a hammer price of $150,000 to $180,000. Therefore, if you have had your eye on such a vehicle, this is your chance to get it at a "relative" bargain price.

Unique among the many cars in the 10th installment of the "Wild Speed" series, which will be released on May 19, is the 1994 Ripsaw driven by Paul Walker in 2001's "Wild Speed," which sold for $560,000 at the 2021 auction It is not an iconic car like the Toyota Supra. Nor is it practical. The ripsaw is offered with a bill of sale and will likely not be certified for public road use.
