Ford F-150 Flash Name Trademarked

Ford has trademarked the name "F-150 Flash," hinting that another version of its best-selling pickup truck may be in the works.

The trademark application, first discovered by CarBuzz, was filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on June 16. The trademark was filed under International Class 12, which covers "automobiles, pickup trucks, electric vehicles, sport utility vehicles, and structural parts thereof."

The inclusion of F-150 in the name confirms that it is a variant of a pickup truck, and the flash signifies something related to the F-150 Lightning, an all-electric vehicle. If you say "flash of lightning," you will immediately know what I am talking about.

As CarBuzz points out, Ford teased a faster Lightning earlier this year when it announced its F1 partnership with Red Bull Racing. Ford will become Red Bull's technology partner starting in 2026 when the new rules take effect, but the partnership will extend to public road vehicles, including the Lightning.

Ford began with graphics showing EV performance concept cars such as the Mustang Mach E 1400, the electric supervan that competed in the 2023 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, and the 1978 F100 electric restomod, which was the Lightning Performance Concepts were previewed. Also on display was a lightning bolt-shaped outline marked "coming soon."

Ford initially did not name the yet-to-be-revealed concept the Lightning, but a week after this preview, CEO Jim Farley announced that he and then-Red Bull reserve driver (now Alfa Tauri race driver) Daniel Ricciardo would be tweeted a photo of themselves and then-Red Bull reserve driver (and now Alfa Tauri race driver) Daniel Ricciardo pulling back the cover of the high-performance Lightning concept. Ford has not revealed when the concept will be unveiled, but at least one possibility for its name has emerged.
