Ram may be developing a three-row pickup truck.
The Ram 1500 Revolution BEV concept, unveiled at the 2023 CES, heralded the Ram manufacturer's future electric pickup. One of the more unusual features was a three-row seating arrangement with removable jump seats, which Ram's parent company, Sterantis, is currently seeking to patent.
First spotted by CarBuzz, the patent application for the removable third-row jump seat was filed by Sterantis in late 2023 and then published by the USPTO on July 4.
The patent application describes a seat that clips to the rear wall of the cab of a pickup and can be folded to save space when not in use. According to the patent application, the seat can also be completely removed and mounted to a tailgate or other flat surface.
This is quite similar to the Ram 1500 Revolution BEV concept. The jump seat is attached to the power midgate and, when opened, provides a pass-through that extends to the front trunk. This allows objects up to 18 feet long to be placed inside the vehicle with the tailgate closed.
Another Sterantis patent application, filed by the automaker and published by the USPTO at the same time as the jump seat application, helps to implement the pass-through feature. It relates to a center console with a unique pass-through that maintains an open space between the midgate and the front trunk.
While these patent applications indicate that Sterantis is looking to eventually produce some of the features of the Ram 1500 Revolution BEV concept, we know that Ram's first production EV will be more conventional than the concept. 2025 Ram 1500 REV will ride on the EV-centric STLA frame platform, but will have similar styling to the gasoline-powered Ram 1500 model and the extended-range Ram Charger.
