Sterantis to work on removable vehicle windows.
Jeep Wrangler drivers can already remove the vehicle's roof and doors, but Sterantis, Jeep's parent company, is also seeking to patent a removable window to drive in the open air with less manual labor.
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) published a patent application by Sterantis for a “removable window system” on August 1. In the application, Sterantis notes that manually removable hardtops like the Wrangler's are cumbersome and suggests removable windows as a way to improve ventilation without having to remove the roof.
Sterantis also seems to be specifically considering rear window and quarter panel windows. The automaker adds in its application that removing them, in combination with lowering the side windows or removing the doors, would enhance the open-air driving experience.
To make the windows removable, Sterantis suggests installing multiple latches. Rotating the handle on each mechanism moves the retaining clip, allowing the window to be removed. [...] [...] [...] [...] [...] [...]
