These are the cars of the Netflix "Senna" mini-series

To make a mini・series about the life of F1 legend Ayrton Senna, Netflix needed a fleet of replica f1 race cars.

To enter its small screen grid, the streaming service built 22 cars for the series and turned to Crespis in Argentina, explains the video released before the premiere of "Senna". These included replicas of all the cars raced by the Triple F1 champion, from Formula Ford to the Tremain TG184, where the Brazilian made his F1 debut, to the Williams FW16, which fatally crashed at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix.

Each car was built specifically for shooting and custom-made engines as well as suspensions and other components were tailored to the way the car was expected to be driven in each sequence. So, like any other TV or movie car, the "Senna" car may seem a part of it, but it can perform quite differently than a real car.

But it was important to make them sound like real 1980s and 1990s F1 cars. Lapel microphones were placed close to the engine and complemented by track-side microphones.

The actors experienced 2-3 go〜kart sessions a week to prepare for the role. This not only helped to get into the thinking of the racing driver, but also provided important practice for getting in and out of the tight cockpit, Matt Mela, who plays Senna rival Alain Prost in the series, said in the video.

Described as semi-fictional, "Senna" begins in the early days of its namesake international racing career, following his life on and off the track through his three World Championships to his 1994 death. It is broadcast on Netflix Nov. 29.
