the headmaster of the cadillac f1 team was marcia's sports director.
Former Marcia Sports Director Graeme Lawdon was named on Thursday as team principal of the Cadillac Formula 1 team, which aims to start the race in 2026.
The announcement comes as General Motors and F1 Endeavour partner Andretti Global and TWG Global, the parent company of several other racing teams, agreed in principle with F1 organizers to put the Cadillac on the grid by 2026 as the 11th team. It is done within 2 weeks of reaching.
Lowdon previously helped the British racing team Manor develop an F1 team that began competing as Virgin Racing in 2010, later branded as Marussia, before eventually the Manor team disbanded in 2017. During that time, he played various senior roles in the team, including the sports director when the team raced as Marcia. The sports director is the person responsible for all operations on the track side of the team.
Recently, Rodong has managed current F1 driver Zhou Guanyu and is racing for Sauber, but will not have a seat next year. Guanyu and current teammate Valtteri Bottas will be replaced by Nico Hülkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto next year, the final year in which the team will compete as Sauber. In 2026, Sauber will be Audi's factory team.
Lowdon also worked as an advisor to the Cadillac F1 project and was influential in approving the team's entry. Other former F1 staff associated with the project include Nick Chester, former Renault Technical Director, and Rob White, former Renault Operations Chief.
"Graeme is honored to work together over the past 2 years and is excited to lead his journey to the 2026 Formula 1 grid as team principal," GM President Mark Royce said in a statement. "He has great racing expertise, he knows how to assemble a high-performance team, and he embodies the values that the Cadillac Formula 1 team represents in all its endeavors, on or off track."
Under the agreement with F1, GM also plans to develop its own power unit. However, the GM power unit is not expected to be ready until 2028 at the earliest, so the Cadillac team will have to buy the power unit from another supplier first. The new power unit rules, which will come into force in 2026, will maintain the form of a turbocharged 1.6-litre V-6 hybrid setup, but will reduce power from gas engines and increase reliance on hybrid systems.
