Gemballa introduces the 911 SUV.

In the same week that Ruf unveiled the Rodeo concept, rival Porsche tuner Gemballa unveiled its own SUV inspired by the Porsche 911 SC Safari rally car produced over 40 years ago.

Unlike the Ruf, which only mimics the 911, Gembara's SUV, dubbed the Avalanche 4x4, is based on a real 911, specifically the 991 generation.

Judging by the teaser sketches, the Avalanche 4x4 will be a very rugged vehicle, similar to the ones that compete in the Dakar Rally every year; if the famous Rothmans Porsche 959 that won the Dakar in 1986 were built today, it would look like the one shown here. No surprise there.

The teaser shows the inflated fenders and a downforce kit that increases the ride height and installs huge off-road tires. The resulting car should be fast no matter the road surface.

Gemballa has not provided performance data, so it is still unclear how fast the car will be. However, the company has already offered an 818 hp upgrade for the 911 and is currently working on a 1,000 hp upgrade.

Gemballa plans to begin deliveries of the Avalanche 4x4 within the next 24 months. If you prefer a more orthodox SUV with SUV bodywork, Gemballa will release a similar package for the Porsche Cayenne-based Tornado.

In addition to these vehicles, the company is also developing a standalone supercar, due to be unveiled later this year.

Note that another 911 SUV will be presented to us in the coming weeks. This third car will be handled by a new company created by Marc-Philippe Gemballa, son of Gemballa founder Uwe Gemballa.
